01 / THE PROBLEM
License renewals, firm registrations, and Secretary of State filings multiplied across states gets tedious quickly. Layer in different CE reporting periods and state-specific category requirements (ethics, accessibility, building code) and it becomes a mess.
CE reporting periods are where it really unravels. Most states require something like 12 HSW per year, but the window varies — some align to the calendar year, some to your license anniversary, some run on multi-year cycles with an annual minimum inside them. The same course you took in March might satisfy one state's current reporting period and fall outside another's. So a course that counts in one jurisdiction may not count in another, either because the categories don't match or because it sits outside that state's reporting window.
Most multi-state architects cope by over-earning credits, because untangling which course counts where across overlapping windows is harder than simply taking more CE than required.

I'm a licensed architect holding active licenses in 22+ states. I built Heads Up because I was drowning in renewal dates, overlapping CE windows, and state-by-state rules that vary in ways no single spreadsheet can track cleanly. Calendar reminders weren't cutting it. I needed something powerful but simple — a system that kept me organized and gave me a heads up when I actually needed one.
So I built it. First for myself, then for the colleagues who kept asking how I tracked everything.
